Nomads Seaboard weekend packed with events

SPORT NEWS - The Nomads Seaboard weekend brought three days of golf, competition and camaraderie to the Garden Route from 7 to 9 August, with clubs from across the region coming together for a weekend packed with events.

The weekend opened on Friday with the Andrew Mentis golf day, hosted at Pezula Golf Club. The Andrew Mentis event forms part of the Nomads’ national drive, with each club raising funds throughout the year for a selected charity.

The competition produced a tightly fought finish, with the winning team taking the honours on a count-in.

Friday’s results were:

First: William Brown, Mariauw Baard, Tony Young and Dominik Dimatellis – 89 points, counted in
Second: Chris Lessing, Fanie du Plessis, Theo Scholtz and Tim Smuts – 89 points, counted out
Third: Shawn Conrad, Cohan Williams, Deno November and Quinton Naidoo

Saturday saw the focus shift to the Seaboard Challenge, hosted at Knysna Golf Club. The challenge brought together Nomads clubs from the Southern Cape, Eastern Cape, Border, Western Cape and Boland in a regional contest.

The individual division winners all finished on 39 points. Matthew Bieske of Western Province won the A-Division, Richard Craddock of Boland took the B-Division, while Pierre Du Plessis of Southern Cape claimed the C-Division.

The Seaboard Trophy was decided on the clubs’ average points, with Southern Cape taking first place with an average of 31.10 points. Eastern Cape finished second on 30.35, followed by Boland on 29.76. Western Province placed fourth on 29.66, while Border finished fifth on 26.80.

Monthly game postponed

The weekend was due to conclude on Sunday with the Nomads monthly game, hosted by Simola Golf Club. However, adverse weather conditions meant that the event could not go ahead.

The monthly game has subsequently been postponed to Sunday 23 August, giving members another opportunity to finish off what was an action-packed Seaboard weekend.

With competitive golf, regional pride and the Nomads’ ongoing commitment to charity at its heart, the Seaboard weekend once again highlighted the strong spirit of fellowship that runs through the organisation.
