GEORGE NEWS - On Saturday 15 February, the inaugural Goliath Munro Memorial Lecture (GMML) was hosted by the Eden Sport Council and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) at the Wilderness Hotel.
The event focused on the theme “30 Years of Democracy – The Role of Sport”, presented by esteemed sports administrator Bennett Bailey.
The programme featured several speakers, including Desmond Speelman, chair of Eden Sport Council, who delivered the welcome and opening address, while Dave van der Walt, an honorary member of the Eden Sport Council, provided background on the event.
The programme was further enriched by heartfelt contributions from attendees, who shared personal anecdotes on the impact Goliath Munro had on their lives.
Muriel Munro, wife of the late Goliath Munro, attended the event alongside other family members. Many long-standing sports figures were also present, reflecting on Munro’s legacy. This biennial event will now be a regular feature, with the next one scheduled for 2027.
