The provincial adjudication, which included all districts in the province, recognised excellence in education delivery, leadership and sustained improvement and highlighted the collective strength of the Western Cape education system. The district had to present in various categories in Cape Town on 18 and 19 May.
Eden and Central Karoo secured top positions in several categories:
- 1st place: Excellence in district leadership and management
- 2nd place: Excellence in primary schools learning outcomes support
- 3rd place: Best performing full-service school, awarded to Prince Albert Primary School.
The NEEA Awards recognise districts and schools that demonstrate high performance and continuous improvement in education, celebrating the work being done at classroom, school and district level to improve learner outcomes.
Following its first-place achievement, the Eden and Central Karoo District will now represent the Western Cape at the national adjudication level in the category of excellence in district leadership and management, where top districts from across the country will compete for national honours.
Speaking about the achievement, the district director, Jewel Jonkers, said: "These awards belong to every district official, principal, educator, learner, parent and partner who believes in our vision and works every day to make it real. Vision 100!"
