NATIONAL NEWS - Reports of snow on the N3 near Harrismith surfaced on Friday morning.
According to Anita Heyl of the N3 Toll Concession, it is snowing very slightly near Harrismith.
Meanwhile, South African Weather Services weather forecaster Thandiwe Gumede confirmed the snowfall in that area, saying that it should continue to snow throughout the day.
“We do not have an alert for that area, that area being the Northern Drakensberg because it is not disruptive snow.
“Most of the snow that might cause havoc will mainly be over Lesotho as well as the Northern parts of the Eastern Cape,” said Gumede.
She added that the regions in the west will also experience some snow but it will not be disruptive snow.
N3 Toll Concession continued to warn road users of reduced visibility and icy conditions on the N3 Toll Route between Van Reenen and Harrismith in the Free State as a result of snow and wet weather, in a statement.
“N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) requests drivers to please reduce their speed and increase following distances. Keep headlights switched on and approach the area with caution. Inclement weather may result in traffic delays and congestion,” read the statement.
