NATIONAL NEWS - Comedian Ntambudzeni Rasendedza (40) better known as ‘Bundu’ in the of Tshovhilingana film was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend, dripping burning plastic all over her body and keeping her locked up in his house for weeks.
The well-known comedian from Lwamondo village just outside Thohoyandou was convicted on a count of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Sibasa Regional Court on 28 September.
The court heard that the first incident happened in August 2019, when Rasendedza assaulted his girlfriend with a wooden stick and electric cable and dripped burning plastic all over her body before locking her up inside his house for two weeks.
The second incident happened when the two attended a party and he assaulted her with a rock, breaking her leg.
Rasendedza pleaded not guilty and said the victim had burned herself and broke her leg after she fell.
In aggravation of sentence, regional prosecutor Fhulufhelo Mulangaphuma argued that the accused should be sentenced to jail to send a message to would-be offenders.
