The third nation in the South Eastern Asian sub-region to receive Nissan’s rival for the Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X, Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport after also debuting in Indonesia last month, the Thai-spec Terra will be offered in two trim levels; V and VL and unsurprisingly, drop the old 2.5-litre YD25DDTi turbodiesel engine, as well the normally aspirated 2.5-litre petrol offered in China, for the Navara’s 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre twin-turbodiesel mated to the seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Equipment-wise, the Terra gets features such a Kenwood seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and satellite navigation, a reverse camera, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, push-button start, LED headlights, two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, a five-inch TFT instrument cluster display, six-speaker sound system, keyless entry and an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s chair.
On the safety-side, all models receive six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Hill Start and Stability Control, while Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring and a 360-degree camera system are standard on the VL.
Initially, the Terra range will be made-up of three models; the two-wheel drive V priced at 1 316 000 baht (R580 948), the VL also in two-wheel drive guise at 1 349 000 baht (R595 516) and the flagship VL with four-wheel drive at 1 427 000 baht (R629 949).
While the addition of the Navara’s engine has opened-up the possibility of the Terra making its way to South Africa, Nissan has so far remained mum on whether it’s long overdue replacement for the R51 Pathfinder would eventually become available outside of Asia.
