Likely aimed at the Ford Ranger Sportrac launched back in August, the SR Challenge comes fitted with black 17-inch alloy wheels, black headlight clusters, bumper step, wheel arch cladding, roll-bar, side steps, mirrors and bumper guard, special SR Challenge decals and on the inside, red stitching on the dashboard and seats, Challenge SR embossed floor mats and black interior trim.

Unlike the Sportrac which comes powered by the entry-level 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, the Hilux SR Challenge utilises the flagship 2.8-litre GD-6 oil-burner producing 130 kW and 450 Nm of torque, with drive going to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Elsewhere in the Hilux range, the standard SR takes over as base model with power coming from a flex-fuel version of the 2.7-litre petrol mill, which produces 120 kW and 245 Nm of torque, and mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic 'box with drive going to the rear wheels only. The sole other inclusion is a narrow double cab version of the 2.8 GD-6 STD, which is only available with four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox.

On the SW4 side, the base SR automatic now offers five seats as opposed to seven and the 2.8-litre GD-6 mill for the first time, while a petrol fuelled SR-V now serves as mid-range model with drive going to the rear wheels only through the above mentioned automatic gearbox. It is exclusively available with seven seats.
