PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bevan van Druten (53), who stands accused of the murder of Nicky van Heerden (54), has been left to apply for legal aid once again after his former defence attorney, Peter Daubermann, withdrew as his legal representative in the matter.
Van Heerden was killed in Plettenberg Bay on 18 January 2026.
During his latest appearance today, 28 September, the Legal Aid representative twice asked Van Druten whether he was sure he wanted to proceed with the application.
Van Druten confirmed and subsequently signed his application before the court. The matter was postponed, with Van Druten remaining in custody pending admission for a mental assessment at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital in Cape Town.
His admission is provisionally scheduled for 16 November.
The court was informed that, should a bed become available before the identified admission date, the necessary arrangements would be made for Van Druten to be admitted earlier.
It was previously reported that Van Druten was no 26 on the waiting list for admission to Valkenberg.
