GEORGE NEWS - While many were reluctantly easing out of the long weekend feeling on Tuesday 3 April, cycling couple Kenneth and Lynette Williams departed from St Mary's Church in Rosemoor on a cycling journey to Port Elizabeth.
Their aim is to raise funds for marriage and family life ministry and in support of Retrouvaille* programmes. The couple will travel 340km by tandem cycling and will arrive at their end destination on Friday 6 April. "Tandem cycling is a real test of strength for a marriage and it requires effective communication between the cyclists," said Kenny.
The cycling couple is originally from Port Elizabeth. Kenny previously participated in solo cycling, but decided to rather start cycling tandem with Lynette to face the challenge together as a couple.
They have since competed in five Cape Argus cycle tours. Lynette was diagnosed with Antiphospholipid syndrome in 1996. The illness causes blood clots to form within the arteries and veins. In her lifetime she has survived nine strokes, but she is adamant to keep on cycling. Lynette encourages other couples to also start an activity together to build cohesion and marriage strength.
