GEORGE NEWS - Member of the Provincial Parliament and PA councillor Brendon Adams was arrested in Conville earlier this morning, on Friday 27 March.
He is expected to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court later today on charges related to the alleged breach of a protection order issued under the Protection from Harassment Act.
The DA’s provincial leader, Tertuis Simmers, had previously obtained a harassment protection order against Adams in Bellville, citing ongoing alleged defamatory remarks on social media. Adams is alleged to have contravened the conditions of that order.
George Herald is awaiting feedback from the police on the matter.
In a statement, Simmers clarified that reports circulating online about the arrest are inaccurate.
“The information currently circulating on social media regarding the arrest of Mr Adams is incorrect and misleading."

The matter is now before the court, and I will therefore not be commenting on the details of the case while legal proceedings are underway," said Simmers.
"I note with concern that false claims about the reasons for the arrest have been spread online since early this morning. These claims are not true.
"I respect the legal process and remain confident that the matter will be dealt with through the appropriate judicial channels.
"I urge the public and members of the media to refrain from spreading unverified information while the matter is before the court.”
