GEORGE NEWS - Journalist and author Marecia Damons will be the main speaker at a fund-raising women's symposium on Saturday 18 May in George.
Damons is co-author with Daniel Steyn of the book, The Thabo Bester Story: The Facebook rapist, the Celebrity Docter and the Escape from Cell 35.
The title of her talk is 'Unmasking the illusion of online perception, the pitfalls and the negative impact of presenting an untrue version of ourselves online'.
Local psychologist Marlette le Roux will also give a talk to highlight the psychological impact that the abuse of social media can have.
The event is hosted by Maggie Damons, Mount Olives founder and experienced former professional nurse with over three decades of experience at George Hospital.
Her aim is to positively impact the lives of children from underprivileged communities in George through various programmes and initiatives.
The symposium will start at 10:00 in the Dutch Reformed Mother Church. Tickets cost R200 and include light refreshments.
