GEORGE NEWS - A 42-year-old man was arrested in George on charges of kidnapping and rape following the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl on Saturday 24 May.
The arrest resulted from a collaborative effort involving the George Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, community safety structures, and local security companies.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident occurred when two girls from Conville were walking along York Street near George Cemetery.
A man approached them, convincing them to follow him to a nearby shop. He then led them to an open field near Airport Road (R102), where the 10-year-old was allegedly raped.
The second girl escaped and alerted her family, triggering an immediate search.
Earlier today, Sunday morning 25 May, the search led authorities to Syferfontein near Pacaltsdorp, where the suspect was located. Further investigation directed police to a residence between the N2 and Airport Road, where the victim was found.
She was promptly taken to a medical facility for care. The suspect is in custody and will appear in court once charged, with additional charges possible as the investigation continues.
Sergeant Christopher Spies of the Western Cape Police emphasised the team’s commitment to justice, urging the public to provide any further information to assist the FCS Unit’s investigation.
