GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has just obtained its fourth consecutive clean audit from the Auditor-General of SA.
“This is a significant milestone,” says Deputy Mayor Browen Johnson. “In George Municipality, we believe good governance begins with strong systems, capable leadership and a clear understanding of our responsibilities.”
Effective internal controls, disciplined financial management and a culture of compliance are key to their success, said Johnson.
“To sustain this progress, the municipality continues to invest in staff development, process improvement and leadership accountability. We are committed to building on this foundation to not only maintain clean audits, but to continuously raise the bar on service delivery and public trust. We have set our goal to be the best non-metro municipality in South Africa, and our leadership team is committed to achieving this objective.”
CFO Riaan du Plessis says their message to other municipalities is simple: “Governance is a team effort. It takes a village, not just a CFO. The strong partnership between our administrative and political leadership, backed by clear policy direction and accountability structures, has been key to our consistency.
"George Municipality places a high value on professionalism, stability and ethical leadership - and we believe these are replicable across the country.”
