LOCAL NEWS - Founder's Day, celebrated annually by the Scouting movement across the world, commemorates the birth of Lord Robert Baden-Powell.
Born on 22 February 1857, Baden-Powell established the Scouting movement in 1907 with the aim of developing young people through outdoor adventure, skills training and community service.
Today, millions of Scouts worldwide continue to follow the values of friendship, leadership and service he championed.
On Sunday 22 February, the First George Scout Group marked Founder's Day with a lively 'splish-splash fun day' on High Ridge Farm.
The event brought together the Scouts, Cubs and Rovers of First George, along with the Brownies, Guides and Rangers, and welcomed visitors from the First Sedgefield Meerkats, Cubs and Scouts and the First Knysna Cubs and Scouts.
With friendship as the theme for the day, altogether 44 young people aged five to 22 attended, accompanied by their leaders.
The programme included a variety of activities designed to build teamwork and camaraderie, from obstacle courses and team-building challenges to water games that provided welcome relief from the summer heat.
The day offered an opportunity for young people from across the Garden Route to connect, collaborate and celebrate the spirit of Scouting, while enjoying the outdoors and learning valuable life skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Young people interested in joining the Scouting movement are encouraged to get involved. Cubs (boys and girls aged seven to 10) may contact Saney Martin on 084 793 4722, while Scouts (boys aged 11 to 17) may contact Bruce Armstrong on 083 444 8486.
