GEORGE NEWS - The Accident and Incident Investigations Department (AIID) of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (Sacaa) confirmed that the light aircraft involved in a crash landing in Thembalethu this morning is a Rockwell 500S, with registration ZS-IZN at the George Airport.
The AIID said preliminary information indicates double engine failure approximately 15km from the airport with the aircraft crash landing in a nearby cemetery around the Thembalethu township.
"The aircraft had departed from the Vereeniging Airport en route to the George Airport with two occupants on board - one pilot and a passenger. Both occupants were taken to a nearby hospital."
It said that a preliminary report will be published on the Sacaa website in 30 days of the accident.
