GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Two people sustained minor injuries when they made an emergency landing in their light aircraft, an Aero Commander, on a farm in the southern parts of Thembalethu, George, this morning, 23 August.
There were no fatalities.
The Garden Route District Municipality reported that the two injured crew members have been taken to hospital where they are being treated.
A witness to the emergency landing, Eltrise Baadjies from Pacaltsdorp, said he was chatting to his friend about the grass around his friend’s house, when all of a sudden, his friend asked: “What is wrong with that airplane?”
“I looked up and saw an airplane going down to the ground,” said Baadjies.
He said he first thought it was an airplane carrying passengers, but later saw photos on social media showing that it was a small aircraft.
“I called the Thembalethu Police and was told an aircraft had made an emergency landing. I am happy that no one was seriously hurt,” said Baadjies.
