GEORGE NEWS - The George Service Clubs (GSC) are turning Breast Cancer Awareness Month into an opportunity to support not only those affected by breast cancer, but also the carers who spend their days looking after others.
The GSC has launched two special Breast Cancer Awareness 2026 brooches, selling for R30 each, and the proceeds will go towards sending its carers to CancerCare Outeniqua Oncology's Fill Your Cup therapeutic workshop for caregivers on 1 October.
The workshop focuses on an often overlooked reality - though caregiving can be rewarding, it can also be physically and emotionally exhausting. The workshop will allow carers to pause, reflect and recharge through therapeutic activities, including sand tray therapy and pencil sketching.
The GSC operates five retirement complexes in George, comprising a frail care facility, assisted living and three independent living complexes.
Two brooch designs are available: 'Awareness', for those wishing to show their support for breast cancer awareness, and 'Survivor', honouring women who have faced breast cancer.
The brooches are available by pre-order only, and payment is required when ordering. Orders can be placed on a WhatsApp to Angelique on 072 649 6367, stating your name, choice of Awareness or Survivor brooch, and quantity required.
