Two adventurers, Jimmy Collins and his friend Terrance Olivier (the Rainbow Warriors), are going into territories they have never been to before.
During their stop-over in George they had this to say: "So far we liked the Western Cape the most."
The trip, that started on 2 January this year, was to raise awareness for 20 charitable organizations. "We are speaking up on behalf of the many charities who desperately need funds to survive," said Collins.
While in George they proudly showed off their make-shift luggage carrier - a giant skateboard with four wheels and two milk crates.
Says their sister-in-law, Sybil Crutchley: "For men of the road, they look surprisingly neat and smart. I must say they are very well organised, they have umbrellas, raincoats and extra thick shoes. Jimmy had rubber cut to the shape of his shoes and stuck them on. He says he now feels he's walking on air".
While on the road, Collins and Oliver encountered a solo traveller, Georgian Manie van der Heever and Tripod, his three-legged dog. He was on a similar mission to raise funds for animal care.
Van der Heever was on his way from Cape Town to Port Elizabetha pushing a wheelchair on which Jock could rest when weary.
Sybil sent the photo of this unusual encounter to the George Herald, saying she was fascinated by Van den Heever's story on how he adopted the amputee dog from the SPCA. During the trip Van den Heever stopped at a sheep farm to get water. Great was his surprise when Tripod suddenly jumped out of the chair, and proceeded to round up the sheep.
"Something he has never done before," says Sybil.
In the meantime Collins and Olivier have reached Napier (near Bredasdorp) and are headed for Hermanus this week.
