GEORGE NEWS - A 33-year-old male partner of a resident of Rosemoor is scheduled to appear in the George magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 27 December on a charge of attempted murder of a two year old boy.
Malcolm Pojie police spokesperson confirmed that a two year old boy from Rosemoor in George had to be rushed to the Red Cross Children’s hospital in Cape town last night (Thursday 21 December) for urgent medical treatment after his private part was physically removed with a pair of scissors and was only hanging on a thread of skin.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the mother of the child ran out of her house with her blood-stained boy, saying that her partner has cut the boy’s penis with a pair of scissors.
"Her neighbours alerted the Conville SAPS,” said Pojie.
The boy was rushed to the George hospital from where he was immediately transferred to the Red Cross hospital in a critical condition due to the loss of blood.
The pair of blood-stained scissors was found by police and handed in as evidence.
Subsequent to the report, the 33-year-old partner was arrested after trying to escape from police.
Eden Cluster Commander, Maj Genl Oswald Reddy and Conville station commander Col Avril Kriga both condemned the barbaric act.
Reddy said “An act committed by someone that close to the boy, someone who is entrusted with his care is frightening.”
Kriga was furious as concerted efforts to educate and empower the very community during the ‘16-Days of Activism Campaign of No Violence to Women and Children’ was made undone through such a barbaric act.
“Now he has to face the full might of the Law. However the boy will be scared for the rest of his life,” Kriga concluded.
