GEORGE NEWS - Popular Gauteng riding instructor Patrick Brown hosted an eventing clinic at the George Riding Club on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August.
Being an experienced instructor and competitor in all three disciplines - dressage, showjumping and cross country - his clinic was sold out within three days of being advertised and riders from as far as Gqeberha attended.
Adhering to Covid-19 regulations, the groups were limited to seven riders per group and five groups per day.
Saturday saw an arena lesson with numerous exercises teaching horse and rider control and balance over various jumps. This is very important when doing cross country jumps at high speed.
According to the organiser, Kelly Searle, the 65cm class was quite something to watch with an introduction to eventing for horse and rider.
During Sunday's lessons, portables and poles were added to the existing jumps to increase the difficulty - especially for riders in the 95cm and 1m classes.
"The clinic was the ideal opportunity for both horse and rider to build confidence for the Western Province Eventing Championships to be held on 27 to 29 August at the George Riding Club," Searle said.
"Due to the popularity of Brown's clinic, we hope to have him back later this year."
Alexis Human took part in the clinic.
