GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality issued a statement this afternoon saying that it has investigated the alleged sewerage spill in Victoria Bay as indicated on video by a resident yesterday.
"Close inspection by senior municipal officials from both the Civil Engineering Services and the Environmental Services department confirms that it is definitely not a sewer spill with the municipal infrastructure not showing any fault or defect on inspection. Laboratory samples of the culvert water and sea water were taken for analysis," said Chantel Edwards-Klose, communications chief.
"Officials present did pick up a foul odour emanating from a thick bush just behind the ablution facilities. The source could not be found and feedback will be given once the origin has been ascertained."
She asked members of the public to report such incidents or suspected incidents directly to the Civil Engineering Customer Services on 044 8029266 during work hours (07:45 – 16:30) and 044 801 6300 after hours.
