GEORGE NEWS - If you have the voice for singing in a choir and want to be part of the 40-year celebrations of the local George Male Voice Choir, you are invited to contact the director, Gideon Brits.
The choir will celebrate its anniversary with a concert on 23 April, where it will be accompanied by the Carpe Musicam! Boutique Band.
Brits calls on men to contact him for auditions. "We also call on the men who previously sang in the choir to report."
The George Male Voice Choir was founded by the well-known pianist Dalene Steenkamp-Brits in 1982. Through the years it has reached many goals and was rated as one of the best adult choirs in South Africa.
It has performed on radio and television and toured to different parts of the country as well as abroad. Apart from full recitals, it also performs at church services, retirement homes and hospice, and in aid of many different charities.
After Dalene resigned from the choir in 2011, the choir was conducted by Jan-Erik Swart, Michael van der Walt and currently Brits.
The choir's activities came to an abrupt halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the Covid-19 restrictions were eased between the Covid-waves, they used the opportunity to practise and performed mainly at old-age homes and church services.
Alwyn Janse van Rensburg on Monday said there are currently 17 members and they would like to have at least 25. Men are welcome to join - irrespective of their age. Younger men are welcome.
Brits can be contacted on 073 655 7292 for an audition.
