GEORGE NEWS - George will be celebrating its 11th Cansa Relay for Life this weekend (24 March) at Carpe Diem School. The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) George Airport has joined hands with Cansa and is the main sponsor for the event, says relay chairperson Lorraine Verhagen.
Verhagen says they are very happy about the donation of R65 000 made by Acsa.
Senzenie Ndebele, a spokesperson for Acsa, says they have been sponsoring the Cansa Relay in George for a few years now.
"We recently made a decision to expand our support for Cansa beyond the relay as well as beyond George Airport."
He says this year they also sponsored the relay in Port Elizabeth and contributed to improvements in the Cansa care homes in George and Port Elizabeth.
"Through our sponsorships, donations and socio-economic development programmes, Acsa seeks to uplift and empower communities and to protect, enhance, and invest in the well-being of the airport communities in which we operate."
He says cancer is becoming more prevalent in all communities in South Africa and they believe that their donation to Cansa is an important way for them to contribute to uplifting and investing in the well-being of the communities in and around George Airport. Verhagen says they are blessed beyond words.
"On behalf of Cansa Relay for Life George, I would like to thank Acsa George Airport for this generous contribution."
She says their financial support enables Cansa to continue with their services in George and their assistance of those in our community who are affected by cancer.
