GEORGE NEWS - A man from Great Brak River, Vic le Roux, managed an incredible feat in raising one ton of dog and cat food for animals in need.
During an outreach for Caws 4 Paws in the informal settlements in October, it dawned on him that there is a dire need for cat and dog food and he immediately decided to attempt to collect one ton of pet food. He also deemed it a good idea to reach out to various animal organisations and unite them for future collaboration, all with the approval of the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA).
Le Roux says the public was immensely forthcoming with donations and the food soon started amassing.
"Each and every donation was significant, immaterial of the amount," said Le Roux. "Suiderkruis Security in Great Brak River donated a substantial amount of food and has undertaken to increase their support for this initiative. The owner, Gideon Marais, and his entire family are animal lovers. Mossel Bay and Great Brak, you rock!"
The ton of food was handed over to the chairman of the GRSPCA, Ben de Villiers, Barry Greyvenstein of Caws 4 Paws as well as Sonja Stander of Cat Garden Route.
And as if this is not spectacular enough, Le Roux now started collecting food and donations for Odin in George and pledged another ton for needy animals.
