GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The iconic Meiringspoort 21.1 km & 12.5 km celebrates its 31st edition this year.
The race, held in one of the country's most breathtaking environments, promises a bigger, safer and more festive experience than ever before in 2025.
The Meiringspoort 21.1 km & 12.5 km is presented by the organizers in partnership with the Mayor of Oudtshoorn, Johan Allers, the Western Cape Department of Mobility, Minister Ricardo McKenzie (Western Cape Minister of Sport and Cultural Affairs), and MEC Isaac Sileku (Department of Infrastructure).
This partnership highlights the significant impact of the event on local growth, tourism and sports advancement.
Growth with a purpose:
With the aim of boosting the local economy, a decision was made to increase the number of participants for the 2025 edition. This will attract more visitors who will, in turn, support local businesses, places to stay and entrepreneurs.
Focus on safety:
The safety of athletes remains a top priority. Organizers take pride in building on an impressive 30 years without serious incidents. Cooperation with traffic and emergency services ensures safety before, during, and after the race.
Important information for 2025:
- Race Date: Saturday, 11 October
- Road Closure: 05:00 – 11:00. No private vehicles in the poort; only official vehicles permitted.
Registration:
- Friday, 10 October: 11:00 – 21:00
- Saturday, 11 October: 04:30 – 05:30 (strictly enforced)
Friday Night Steak Evening:
- Enjoy a steak evening on 10 October with a cash bar and live entertainment – a perfect chance to mingle, soak up the atmosphere, and build excitement for the race ahead.
Note to participants and spectators:
- No private vehicles, pets, or bicycles allowed in the poort.
