Breaking News Update
OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Emergency and disaster management teams have successfully evacuated all stranded occupants from Cango Mountain Resort following days of severe flooding and dangerous road conditions that left the resort isolated since 6 May.
The evacuation operation formed part of a coordinated response led by the Oudtshoorn Municipality in partnership with emergency services, disaster management officials, and provincial authorities.
According to Mkhululi Yekani, Municipal Manager of the Oudtshoorn Municipality, all children, teachers, municipal workers, and ground teams have now been safely evacuated and are unharmed.
Emergency services and response teams remain onsite to continue monitoring conditions and ensure the safety of surrounding affected areas as floodwaters and unstable terrain continue to pose risks in parts of the region.
The municipality thanked all emergency personnel, officials, volunteers, and community members involved in the operation for their cooperation and swift response during the crisis.

“The safety and wellbeing of all occupants remained our highest priority throughout the operation,” Yekani said.
The resort had been cut off for several days after severe rainfall caused widespread flooding and extensive damage to access roads in the Greater Oudtshoorn region. Rescue teams had earlier faced significant challenges reaching the site due to washed-away roads, unstable river crossings, and ongoing hazardous weather conditions.
Authorities had initially focused on delivering food and essential supplies to stranded occupants while assessing possible evacuation routes. An alternative mountain access route was later identified and utilised as part of ongoing rescue efforts.
The municipality has again urged residents to remain cautious, avoid flooded or restricted areas, and continue following official communication channels for updates and safety instructions as recovery operations continue across the district.
