GEORGE NEWS - The two men accused of the shooting of an off-duty police officer in Thembalethu appeared in court for a bail application on Wednesday 15 April.
The main suspect, Siphosethu Teyise (29), abandoned his bail application, while his co-accused, Siphosethu Hobe (27), was released on bail of R1 000.
Both are scheduled to appear again on 15 May.
They were arrested following an incident in which a 30-year-old off-duty police officer was shot and left with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and leg near the Truns nightclub, at about 00:30 on Wednesday 1 April.
According to the Garden Route District's corporate communication commander, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the officer had become involved in an altercation with the suspect, who later returned with reinforcements.
Shots were fired and the officer was critically injured before being admitted to intensive care. He has since been discharged from hospital.
The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but were arrested shortly after the shooting.
