GEORGE NEWS - A clamp-down operation in George led to the confiscation of more than a thousand litres of counterfeit liquor worth an estimated R200 000, with two suspects arrested.
The action formed part of broader operations across the Garden Route and Central Karoo on Thursday, 21 August 2025, aimed at curbing the influx of firearms, drugs and illicit goods into vulnerable communities.
On the same day, at about 23:45, Beaufort West police, in conjunction with Western Cape Provincial Traffic, Central Karoo K9 and Crime Intelligence, as well as other law enforcement agencies, conducted a roadblock along the R61 on Aberdeen Road at Beaufort West when they pulled over a white Citroën.
While searching the vehicle and occupants, the police members found a revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition in possession of the suspect, who was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and was therefore arrested for the unlawful possession of the items.
In an unrelated matter, Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit members followed up on intelligence when they pounced on a woman at a hiking spot along the R62 near Calitzdorp. They proceeded with a search and found 201 Mandrax tablets in her possession.
Police confiscated the drugs estimated at R12 000 and arrested the 23-year-old woman on a charge of dealing in drugs. She is expected to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate's Court today, Monday 25 August.
All the suspects will appear in court once charged.
