SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - An overwhelming experience and sense of awe is evoked when driving through the mountain passes of the Karoo. Meiringspoort, Seweweekspoort and Outeniqua.
The landscape constantly invokes questions in the inner chambers of our minds. Questions of how they formed, who has passed through them, how old they are-and how long will they stay like this? The feelings of wonder have not waned- and artists are still inspired by this magical phenomenon - their efforts at creating inspired replicas of these majestic landscapes can be seen at Krans en Kloof at this year's Klein Karoo Klassique.
This art exhibition starts on 10 August at ArtKaroo Gallery, 54 Baron van Reede Oudtshoorn. One artist whose work can be admired is that of Hein Botha. Botha is best known for producing the exquisite artwork for South Africa's iconic stamp series from 1977 tot 2016 including the Volvo 60 Round the World Yacht Race.
On his website www.heinzone.co.za he confesses "Having spent my career in the broader visual/conceptual realm, I enjoy exploring and making new connections and creative statements on a personal as well as on a commissioned basis." Above all he enjoys moving away from a graphic realism to a more unconfined earthiness giving free reign to his imagination.
Hein Botha's work has taken on a new ethereal dimension.
