GEORGE NEWS - Thembalethu High School acting Principal Edmund Magxaka was satisfied with the result despite the challenges the community faced.
“Gangsterism is a massive problem which we will have to deal with sooner rather than later as well as the numerous service delivery protests that took place during the year.”
The Thembalethu pass rate was 66,7% (71,3% in 2017). 16,2% of learners attained a bachelor’s pass and the school had 4 distinctions.
At York High, the 2018 NSC results were released an hour earlier so the WCED’s Muslim candidates could attend mosque. It was met with great celebration at the school.
The Bachelor rate was 88,4 percent which means that 160 of the 181 candidates earned the right to go to University.
“This is still the best measure of quality in the system” said York High principal Francois Moll.
There were 26 A aggregates with the top 3 candidates averaging marks in the 90s. Of the 181 candidates, 180 candidates passed thereby ending York’s run of 100 percent passes.
