NATIONAL NEWS - Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says that the country can't afford to have a captured state that serves narrow interests.
Gordhan was speaking at the Flagship Thought Laboratory in Alexandra on Thursday.
He says that if the state is captured, it can't play a "servant state".
“If it is there to only serve narrow interests and those of a few, what kind of state do we have? What kind of democracy do we have?"
Gordhan believes that South Africa will only attain true transformation once the rot in government and the private sector is dealt with.
“Otherwise you get no transformation, we’re only fighting for spoils of what is being left. Stage one of transformation, starting today, we ask ourselves how we can fight the rot.”
