Gordhan was addressing union leaders at UASA’s annual conference in Boksburg yesterday about the state of the economy.
The minister says the country is making progress, despite the economy not growing fast enough.
Gordhan has made it clear that there’s no issue between him and President Jacob Zuma but emphasised that the right type of leadership is needed to ensure economic growth.
“If we provide the right leadership, if we demonstrate the right kind of integrity in our leadership and we build enough to make the changes that we need to make in the economy and our society so we can tell our children and grandchildren that we’ve indeed created a better future for you.”
Gordhan remains confident about South Africa avoiding a credit downgrade, despite facing some challenges himself.
There've been suggestions that the fraud charges leveled against him recently may have been politically motivated in an attempt to push him out of his position as finance minister.
