Guests at the seventh Gourmets and Gourmands fundraising dinner for Carpe Diem School were stunned when a women's wrist watch was auctioned for R72 500. The stainless steel Ebel Beluga watch features 36 diamonds of 1.692 carat and was donated by Michel Nunes, of D'Amato Jewellers. It is now the proud property of Johan and Anneke Smit. Other guests eagerly raised their hands to bid on various adventures, trips and golf excursions. The charity auction raised a total of R266 000 for the school’s pupils with special needs.
