GARDEN ROUTE RUGBY NEWS - There was great excitement last week when several women rugby teams received playing kits via the SWD Rugby Football Union's club aid programme.
Among the clubs that received kits were: Heidelberg, Albertinia Roses, Happy Hearts Dolphins, George Lilly's, Knysna Titans, Harlequins and DCS Oudtshoorn.
The SWDFRU's strategic aim is to empower women. According to a statement by the union, this initiative will significantly help women's rugby to grow.
Two clubs from the Kannaland region, Zoar Utd and Calitzdorp, also benefited from the SWDRFU's club aid programme and received a set of playing jerseys each.
The SWDFRU thanked its sponsors and associate partners for their loyal support through these trying times.
According to the union, women's rugby is growing in the region and at the moment there are seven teams. Over the past year, rugby among girls at school also became more popular.
