GEORGE SPORT NEWS - Our goal was to work hard from the start, do our best and be on the podium. And that's what we did. This was Lloyd Bosman's comment after he and Nedbank teammate, Etienne Plaatjies, finished second overall in this year's AfricanX Trailrun at the Houw Hoek Hotel in the Overberg last weekend.
Bosman and Plaatjies completed the three stages in an impressive combined time of 5 hours 11 minutes 13 seconds. They finished in second place in each of the three stages.
The winning duo of Juan van Deventer and Eric Ngubane won in 05:08:36.
Bosman told George Herald that, although trail running does not really form part of their training - they are both roadies with Plaatjies concentrating on the longer distances and Bosman in the shorter versions - they decided to tackle South Africa's premier three-day stage trail run to challenge themselves.

"We were really looking forward to the aspect of participating as a team. We know each other very well and train together on a weekly basis. Etienne is like an older brother to me and we feed off each other," said Bosman.
"We both love running in nature and trail running - although we knew it would be painful - brings the best out of an athlete. It was definitely challenging but not boring and we could have won it easily. The winners finished in fourth position on day three while we came second. The three-day stage was not too technical and we kept up with all the other athletes. I firmly believe our team strength was the main reason why we persevered."
