If the whistleblower Agrizzi is to be believed, the honchos at Bossasa kick off the day at its offices with a prayer meeting. Hey? Prayer is associated with spirituality and personal contact with a higher power. It encompasses praise and supplication. Or that’s what I’ve always been led to believe.
Given the alleged goings-on of Watson Inc – outright theft and corruption – how do you equate them with something so sincere and humble as prayer? Oxymoronic, to say the least.
Be interesting and enlightening to hear from these self-confessed “born again Christians” what they pray for. For protection from the law? For more opportunities to steal? For introducing them to more politicians on the make?
If so, it appears as if their prayers are being answered. Their vaults have been kept full of filthy lucre, ready to distribute among greedy passengers on the gravy train. They’ve even been able to corner presidential and law enforcement institutions.
And so far, despite damning evidence, they’re still active and free to come and go.
Answered prayer? Genuine believers beg to differ. They call it outright blasphemy and hypocrisy. And what’s more, they say, it won’t go unpunished for breaking tenets of religion’s rules encompassed in the 10 commandments.
If this be so, the question arises: Why have they been getting away with what was tantamount to sin (again, in religious parlance)? And for so long? Well over a decade of looting and money laundering and fraternising with bad people in high places. A system so fool proof that it went unnoticed under our noses.
I don’t know the answer from a religious perspective, but what I do know out of experience is that wrongdoing has a way of coming back and biting the perpetrators. Expressions such as, “when the worm turns” or, “every dog gets his day” come to mind.
Maybe Angelo has awakened the worm in the form of the new look National Prosecuting Authority, and the turning has started. And maybe sooner than later those “new-born” will be charged and ultimately jailed for their deeds costing the nation billions. What delicious irony if the prisons have been secured by their own “companies”.
Prayer sessions in their cells? A little too late? Unless they’re truly re-born this time round.
