SAILING NEWS - The very hot conditions and a strong, gusty berg wind prevailing on Sunday deterred most sailors of the George Lakes Yacht Club from making the trip to Island Lake.
As it happened the wind did ease off in the afternoon with gusts of up to 15 knots at times. Three races were held, with just four Lasers and a Dart 18 competing. One of those Lasers was 85-year old Bill Turner.
Hans Delport, sailing with JP Buys, was able to pull well clear of the Lasers in these conditions, but still not enough against his class handicap. Amongst the Lasers, Henry Paine was able to establish the lead in all three races, ahead of David Laing, Malcolm Osborne and Bill Turner.
These races were the first set for the Realty Homenet Trophy, which has Henry Paine leading.
