GEORGE NEWS - Former Eastern Province flyhalf, Gavin Cowley, these days a well-known television sport commentator and keen family historian (genealogist), will address the Genealogy Society of the Southern Cape and all interested people at the George Museum on Wednesday 27 September at 14:00.
Cowley has just published a 600 page book on the Cowley family, The Cowleys - from Derbyshire to Plettenberg Bay, featuring stories about families from the Eden district with links to the Cowleys.
Various church communities are also discussed in the book.
Abrie de Swardt, chairperson of the GSSA Southern Cape, invites all lovers of family history as well as the Friends of the George Museum to this storytelling occasion where the audience will also learn how to discover more about their own family history.
De Swardt says Cowley’s book is another break-through for genealogy, as it is much more than just family trees. “It features the history and stories of many families from Plettenberg Bay, George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Knysna and areas in between. Come and enjoy!”
