GEORGE RUGBY NEWS - "The inaugural George Tens club rugby tournament has laid a good foundation for what we hope will become a major attraction to our city and region in future," said George Mayor Melvin Naik during the opening of the event last weekend.
The George Municipality has sponsored R150 000 towards this year's event in which 32 teams competed.
It was the first tournament of its kind to include a women's division.
The tournament was preceded by a rugby clinic for school children in which former rugby players, coaches and administrators such as Danie Gerber, Ian Mcintosh,
Dick Muir, Peter de Villiers and Bevin Fortuin shared their knowledge and skills to a new generation.
"We thank the organisers for coming up with this great idea and hope it will grow into a significant sporting event that will benefit communities beyond sport and tourism," said Naik.
