OLYMPIC NEWS - Tatjana Smith (formerly Schoenmaker) has done it!
The South African bagged the gold medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke as she beat Tang Qianting from China and Mona McSharry from Ireland.
The 27-year-old from Johannesburg is the current Olympic record holder in the event, with a time of 1:04.82 that she swam in Tokyo in 2021.
Last night’s time of 1:05.28 at the Paris La Defense Arena was, however, enough to bag another Olympic medal for her, this time gold, adding to her silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
At the same event, she won a gold medal in the women’s 200m breaststroke, where she set a new world record of 2:18.95.
Meanwhile, Pieter Coetze´ ended fifth in the men’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 52:58, losing to Italian Thomas Ceccon who bagged gold with a time of 52:00.
