GEORGE NEWS - There was a great atmosphere when Jonga High School hosted an u.15, u.17 and u.19 interschool sports day against Indwe High School from Mossel Bay on Saturday 22 July.
Three netball games were played on the school's own court and four soccer matches were played on its main soccer field.
The sport-loving communities come out in great numbers to support their kids. Palesa Mondlane, a Jonga High u.17 netball player who originally hails from Mpumalanga in Polokwane, said she likes being in George and told George Herald that she was very excited as this would be the first time that she appears in a newspaper.
She never expected that playing netball for her school would create one of the big moments of her life.
The netball games saw Jonga High beating Indwe High in both the u.15 (11-16) and u.19 (24-12) divisions, while the visiting school managed to win the u.17 game with 3-8.
On the soccer field, Jonga High's ladies team defeated Indwe High ladies 1-0, while two of Jonga High boys teams won their matches on penalties u.15 (2(5)-2(3)) and u.17 (0(7)-0(6)).
The tables were turned in the u.19 game where they got surprised in a nail-biting encounter. Indwe High were victorious in their last game, defeating Jonga High 1-0.
Jonga High School is in the process of raising funds and is looking forward to organising more activities and matches around the region in future.
