GEORGE NEWS - During the December holidays, a group of players of the Rosemoor Tennis Centre (RTC) headed to Cape Town to compete in the prestigious Super 8 tournament.
This is one of South Africa's highest-level events for junior tennis.
The trip offered more than just top-level competition. "It was so much fun travelling and touring as a group," said RTC coach Petrus Koekemoer.
"The players bonded, warmed up together, and supported one another throughout the tournament."
Carter Farell and Santiago Scott claimed gold in the boys 14 section, while Raysean Appels battled fiercely in the final, narrowly missing out in a three-set thriller.
RTC's talent didn't stop there.
From 7 to 11 January, Luchen Belelie (Rosemoor Primary) and Raysean represented Eden at the interprovincial tournament in Bloemfontein.
The Eden U13 team finished in 10th place overall.
"Raysean, playing in the number one position, won all his singles matches and earned a spot in the South African Schools Team," says Koekemoer.
"This is an amazing accomplishment. Selected players usually travel to the UK during the June holidays to compete against international teams and even visit Wimbledon. We are extremely proud of everyone who participated, and a big thank you to all involved in supporting our mission and vision."
