Lifters battle it out in championships

In an extreme test of strength lifters battled it out in East London at the provincials trials for places in the Eastern Cape Powerlifting Team to participate at the SA Powerlifting Championship later this year.

The SWD lifters excelled with six first places in the powerlifting and two in the bench press competition.
Local lifters Anneke Jordaan, Christo Jordaan, Juan Fourie, Jacques Fourie, Hanno Lourens and Stephen Stander were all included in the Eastern Cape Team.
Anita Barnard was selected as manager of the team.

Several lifters were honoured by Eastern Cape Powerlifting at a function after the trials for their performances in the 2010 season.

Winners of the different divisions were: Kyle Valentine (C league men), Anneke Jordaan (C league women), Heindrich Janse van Rensburg (B league men & Bench Press Champion), Pieter Benadé (A league men), Stephen Stander (Master 1 Champion), Juan Fourie (Junior Champion), Christo Jordaan (Open Men Champion), André Ludik (Master 2 Champion,
Master Bench Press Champion, Senior & Club Coach), Stephanie Pretorius (Sub Junior Champion), Gillian Smith (Open Ladies Champion), Jacques Knoesen (Senior Coach & Administrator).
