GEORGE NEWS - Wessel's Martial Arts Academy recently held its bi-annual senior and junior black belt examinations.
The senior panel was overseen by sensei Wessel Wilms (4th dan), sensei Joshua Fair (3rd dan), sensei Mick Pritchard (3rd dan) and sensei Herve Fritz (2nd dan).
The senior candidates who successfully passed their Yudansha examination were: sensei Chandré Strydom (2nd dan), sensei Neil Lurie (2nd dan), sensei Louis Lehmkühl (2nd dan) and sensei Edward Kay-Shuttleworth (1st dan).
It was also a big day for sensei Chandré Strydom as her two junior students, Sempai Khia van der Meulen (junior black belt), and Sempai Sebastian Cook (junior black belt) passed their examination with flying colours. They were evaluated by senseis Mick Pritchard, Joshua Fair, and Herve Fritz. The examination took each candidate through physical fitness, sparring against single and multiple opponents, self-defence movements against various acts of physical violence, and kata (traditional patterns).
