GEORGE SPORT - The Eden Sport Council will host its inaugural Legends Recognition Function later this year, aimed at acknowledging local sports legends who have never before been recognised at district level.
According to the council's secretary, Zelda van Staden, the event is planned to take place every second year.
A maximum of 15 individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on sport and recreation in the Eden district will be honoured.
With the nomination process already under way, the public is encouraged to nominate of individuals who meet the following criteria:
• Nominees must be at least 60 years old.
• They should have contributed to advancing equality, inclusivity or diversity within sport and recreation.
• They must have made a noteworthy contribution to the growth or development of sport.
• Consideration will also be given to those who have championed disability sport, women and girls in sport, and other underrepresented groups.
• Nominees should be recognised as icons within their sporting communities.
• They must have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to sport and recreation.

The closing date for nominations and the official date of the function will be announced in the coming days.
