Dandré de Jong was fourth in Cadet Mens Epeé, Susan Agrella was second in Senior Womens Foil and Francois Campher was first in Minims Mens Epeé. Agrella has also been selected for the national team three times and competed in Egypt in the African Championships, in Russia in the World Championships and in Scotland in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
In the provincial rankings a load of medals were brought back to George at the annual Bonnievale Competition.
Eckardt Reyneke received three bronze medals and one silver, Dandré de Jong two gold, two silver and one bronze, Bernard Bath two bronze medals, Dorian Moretti a silver and a bronze, Sebastian Moretti two silvers and Susan Agrella a gold and a bronze medal.
At the KZN Open Champs, Agrella received a bronze medal in foil and at the Junior National Championships in Pretoria, De Jong a bronze medal in sabre and Campher two bronze medals in foil and epeé.
At the Fencing Western Cape Ranking held in Cape Town recently Bertus Coetzee won a gold medal, De Jong a silver and a bronze and Campher two bronze medals.
At the annual Western Cape prize giving, Sebastian Moretti, De Jong and Agrella achieved full provincial colours and Sebastian Moretti and De Jong in both epeé and sabre. Agrella, Sebastian Moretti and De Jong also received the trophies for the the best foilist, sabreurs and epeeists of the year.
The club moved to the Indoor Action Cricket Sport Centre in George and the extra training slots proved to be very beneficial. The fencing will continue training throughout the exams and holidays as the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships will be held in Cape Town next year. It will be the first time since 1997 that an international event of such a scale will be seen in South Africa and the expectation is that at least one of the Eden fencers will be part of the team representing South Africa.
