BADMINTON NEWS - The Eden Badminton Federation participated in the Badminton South Africa Masters and Grand Masters Competition, taking place in Kenilworth, Cape Town, from 11 to 16 May.
This prestigious event brought together top players aged 45 years and above from across the country to compete in a week of intense matches.
Players from George, Stilbaai and Oudtshoorn made up the Eden team's core, with support from guest players from KwaZulu-Natal and the Cape Winelands to complete a competitive line-up.
Among the stand-out participants are the three athletes from the George Badminton Club - Heleen Fourie, Amanda Minnie and Lourens Schlebusch.
Adding to Eden's presence at the event was Janine Kotze of Oudtshoorn, who served as one of the tournament's official referees and technical officers.
The masters and grand masters tournament remains one of the highlights of the national badminton calendar. It is a platform for players who have been involved in the sport for many years to compete at a high level.
The team event takes place during the first few days of the competition, whereafter an open competition takes place.
The Eden team competes in pool A against teams from Cape Town, Cape Winelands, the Free State and Johannesburg. The games can be watched on www.youtube.com/@CapeTownBadminton.
The Eden Badminton Federation is proud of both its athletes and officials, whose participation contributes to the growth of the sport in the Southern Cape and inspires the next generation of players.
