GEORGE NEWS - Local swimmer Danelle Snyman (39) is set to fly the South African flag high as she competes in the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Singapore from 7 to 13 August.
Snyman, who trains with the Royal Swimming Academy, will be representing Team SA in five events: the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
"This is an absolute dream come true!" said Snyman. "Eighteen months ago, I went to see my coach and told her this is what I wanted to do, and she said, 'Let's do it!'"
After months of dedication and intense training, her goal is now within reach.
While she acknowledges the level of competition will be fierce, with athletes from around the world competing at top speeds, Snyman remains determined.
"The rest of the world is incredibly fast, but I'm hoping to finish in the top 10."
The World Aquatics Masters Championships, taking place from 26 July to 22 August, draws elite masters swimmers from around the globe.
Snyman will depart for Singapore on Saturday to begin her journey on the international stage.
