GEORGE NUEWS - NMMU George campus recently acknowledged the sterling examples of excellent leadership displayed by students across all spheres of student life through its first-ever comprehensive Achievers Awards. Sport awards were made to students who are registered members of NMMU George sport clubs and who excel in sport recognised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc).

The sport awards were:
Hockey - Marnus de Klerk, Christopher Elliott and Bruce Taylor received sport merit awards for their superior performance in hockey.

Rugby - Karl-Hein Schuld, Zeke Jansen, Braam du Preez, Theunis Bercksen, Antonie Beswick and Raynor Becker were honoured for their contribution to rugby.

Angling - John-Louis van Zyl was acknowledged for his contribution to angling. Power lifting - Hanno Lourens received the sport merit award for power lifting.

Sportsman of the year - Theunis Dercksen.
The awards for sport team of the year and sport club of the year both went to rugby.
