GEORGE NEWS - The Black Cats Football Club u.15 team were crowned champions of the 16 June u.15 soccer tournament after beating Raul Stars 3-0 in the final on Monday afternoon, 17 June at Thembalethu Stadium.
Seventeen junior soccer teams participated in this great soccer festival for the George communities.
In the first semi-final, Black Cats beat France United 2-0, while in the second semi-final, Raul Stars defeated Eastern City 3-1.
Qampi Simnikiwe, Lukhanyo Ncamazana and Oyama Azande Qampi netted the three goals in the final that saw Black Cats come out as tournament winners.
Black Cats u.15 netted their first goal after poor communication in the backline of the Raul Stars youngsters. Raul Stars pushed for an equalising goal, but were still trailing 1-0 into the break. With Black Cats showing a greater hunger for goals, Lukhanyo Ncamazana and Oyama Azande Qampi added two goals for the Cats u.15 team in the second half to claim the victory.
Geolfa secretary Xola Makinana said the 16 June u.15 soccer tournament, one of the best grassroots tournaments, was a great succes and a testament to Geolfa's commitment to nurturing young talent. He said it was encouraging to see youngsters showcasing their talent and passion for football after a long period without an organised soccer event.
He added that the young players displayed great skills, team work and sportsmanship throughout.
The Geolfa junior league is set to start in a few weeks.
